I recently read a post from an ABA I follow on social media, Patrick Mullick. He said:
“If it is routine, then it is predictable,. If it is predictable, then it is reliable. If it is reliable, then it can be trusted. If it can be trusted, then it is safe. If it feels safe, then your student with autism will have a much easier time.”
This is so very true and not just for students with autism. No one wants to walk into a situation that is unknown or scary. This is why I love social stories. Social stories provide nice visuals and show possible things that may be encountered during different situations. When I write my social stories, I like to emphasize that it is ok to try a new situation, and worst case scenario, if it doesn’t work out you can try again next time. This is so important with kids with autism and other exceptionalities. They need to experience the world and the world needs to experience them.
Here you will find out Thanksgiving Social Story, featuring my 3 favorite monsters.
We hope you have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!
