Holiday Toy Ideas From Love & Co.

Santa is on his way! We have compiled a list of some of our favorite toys that are fun and work on therapy skills.

Bop It

Bop It is a great game for following directions, motor planning, and bilateral coordination. PLUS it is so much fun! There are three commands that kids need to follow to win. – ‘Bop it, twist it, pull it!’.

Simon

Simon is a fun way to challenge a child’s ability to attend and follow multistep directions.  This game is all about repeating patterns that get more challenging as the game progresses.

Twister

Twister is a fun way to work on gross motor skills like strength, balance, coordination, and motor planning. The colored dots are easy for many children to follow along. There is even a junior version with animals!

Melissa & Doug Chunky Puzzles

Puzzles are a great way to teach vocabulary, and parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions), and build fine motor skills and coordination. These are great for conversation! You can make animal sounds, and talk about where the animals live, what they eat, and their colors and sizes. Most stores have these on sale for Christmas so they make great stocking stuffers.

Mental Blox

These are great for executive functioning skills! Executive functioning skills are skills like planning, organization, task initiation, flexibility, attention, self-control and, working memory. These are not your ordinary puzzles. These are bright and colorful and 3D. They come in travel, junior, and regular so there is a set for most kids. My kids all love working on these!

Hot Wheels and Cars Rugs

Does your child need help with gross motor skills? Get them on the floor and play with some toy cars! They will build core strength! Cars are also great for speech and language. You can learn some core words like stop and go, in a fun way. Talk about the sounds the cars make and the colors of the cars too! So many great skills.

See and Say!

This is a great way to get a conversation going about animals. This has animal identification, sounds, and quiz mode. Great for language and vocabulary building, turn-taking, and following directions.

Sensory Squish Bag

Do you have a kiddo who loves water? This sensory squish bag is so cool. You fill it with water and the mix that comes with it to make a sensory gel. Your child gets to squish the bag to move these around.

I would urge caution around children who tend to chew on things as they may bite this open.

We hope these toys give you some great ideas for gift ideas that are fun and help keep therapy going even when therapy isn’t in session.
